Opening Day: 230 days to PBP

1 01 2007

This weekend kicked off the 2007 training season in earnest.

Staypuff BillyMy 2006 season just ended with cyclocross nationals in Providence, RI and I’ve been enjoying the last two weeks off the bike. But the turning of the new year brings the countdown to Paris . . . 230 days. Sunday marked my return to the bike with a chilly 60 miles on the road bike. It was 35 degrees when I left the house. Not bad for the 31st of December, but not exactly toasty either. We had 9 at the start, 8 for the whole loop to Coburn. Billy gets the hard man award for doing the ride on his fixie with an SLR saddle! The bag of marshmallows in his back pocket was the key to keeping the legs spinning.

This morning was a shaky start. My legs were a little tired from an ambitious return to pedaling yesterday and my head was a little foggy from a bit of over-indulgence to ring in the new year. I headed to the shop at 10 AM for the traditional shop New Year’s Day Hangover Ride. Admittedly, I would have been happy to start the day a little later, but 2 hours on the singlespeed in Scotia and some nice new trails did wonders to clear the head and make the impending year seem a little less daunting.
